The Pentagon is a large, five-sided, multi-story federal military office building located at 48 North Rotary Road in Arlington, Virginia. Ground was broken for the Pentagon in the early days of World War II on September 11, 1941.
At 09:37 EDT on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, the part of the Pentagon that faces nearly due west was impacted by the crash of American Airlines Flight 77. Everyone aboard that aircraft was killed, and hundreds of civilian and military employees were killed or wounded.
