From September 11 Memories

Christopher Larrabee, died September 11, 2001.

I went to college with Chris at the University of Arizona. We were in the Media Arts Department together and majoring in film. Chris was a pretty quiet young man, but when he felt comfortable and opened up he was one of the nicest and funniest people I knew. A few times a group of us went out for drinks after one of our BFA classes and I have to say that young man was fun and spirited. Our senior year one of our professors asked what our plan was once we graduated and if we were prepared. Chris jokingly told the professor, "I've decided film is too competitive...I'm going into porn." The class burst out with laughter as Chris just sat there grinning. I will never forget that.

When a colleague of ours informed me of his presence in the WTC upon collapse I was stunned. Although I didn't know Chris all that well I worked with him on a few film projects and laughed with him enough to consider him a friend.

May his soul rest in peace.

I grew up with Chris, he lived down the street from me and we attended middle school, high school and 5 years at the University of Arizona together. Although I cannot say that he was my best friend, certainly a close friend and a life changing one. Life changing because he and the only larger kid than Chris in 8th grade took it upon themselves to playfully oppress their slightly smaller friends to make them stand up for themselves and stop being "wusses". Without this constant good hearted abuse I would have never become the man I am today. With that and the cherished memories of the "Larrabee Nasal Canon", Dr. Giggles and countless shots at Dirtbags his loss was devastating to me. It is a wonderful thing that websites like this can keep his memory living on so that people can understand the senseless loss of a beautiful human being. SRS
